Direct Mail Performs Strongly In DMA Report
Is Your Company Taking Advantage Of This Key Medium?
According to the Direct Marketing Association 2005 Response Rate Report, direct mail is still one of the best ways to reach your targets. The overall response rate for flat direct mail rose from 2.73% in 2004 to 2.77% in 2005, with some industries such a catalog and retail stores achieving more than 7% and professional services and non-profit organizations reaching over 3.9%. Other direct mail mediums including dimensional mail, postcards and catalogs also performed well.
Response rates for dimensional mail were 3.67%. The highest response rate for dimensional mail was in healthcare, which exceeded 10%.
Response rates for postcards were 2.19%. The highest response rates for postcards were realized in entertainment and recreation (13.68%) and personal and repair services (7.14%).
Catalog response rates rose from 2.23% in 2004 to 3.67% in 2005. Catalog response rates for manufacturing reached 9.48%, a possible indication of the improving economy.
