Experts Expect Direct Mail Spending To Rise

Is Your Company Ready To Invest More In Direct?

According to experts in the field such as Robert Coen, Sr. VP and Director of forecasting with Universal McCann, direct mail spending is expected to rise up to eight percent this year to just short of $60 billion big ones. It appears the postal rate increase earlier this year has not affected the volume of mail being sent—proof that direct mail is among the top methods of effectively reaching consumers and businesses.

In addition, a new study on advertising budgets done by Schonfeld & Associates forecasted that direct mail catalogers’ spending will increase to $1.3 billion. This is in sharp contrast to the late nineties and early millennium days when catalogers were cutting print catalog budgets under the assumption that having an online catalog alone would suffice. The retail giants who went to online catalogs only quickly resumed circulating print catalogs as well—even more proof that direct mail is a powerful, effective—even necessary means of reaching targets.
